MANILA, Philippines – Female victims of a political massacre in the Philippines that left 57 people dead were shot in their genitals and may have been raped, Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said on Friday.
"Even the private parts of the women were shot at. It was horrible. It was not done to just one. It was done practically to all the women," Devanadera said on GMA Network.
"The zippers of their pants were all undone. We have yet to determine whether they were raped. But it is certain that something bad was done to them."
Police previously said at least 22 of the victims were women.

So after years of women empowerment, women are still treated inhumanely in some parts of our country. Women do not still get the same treatment as men even in death, why do they have to shoot them at their genitals? I respect our Muslim sisters and brothers' culture but this is inhumane.
Why not shoot the criminals at their genitals too so they would know how it feels like to be treated that way?
The female genitalia has been a long time arena for gender struggle; the gun is likened to the male genitalia trying to prove their dominance over women's genitalia. Who could have known, maybe the gun itself has been shoved up inside the women's vagina before the men pulled up trigger.
Right now it is very tempting to leave the country and search for a better place with better gender political stand on women. My heart sank when I read the very brief news article, no matter how much I try to absorb what happened I cannot help it but to feel enraged, I felt like all the feminists' sacrifice hard work was gone to waste. I do not know what else to say but to feel for the women who died in a brutal way at the hands of men who cannot understand a woman's worth.
Did you know that female professors in Ateneo de Manila University has relatively lower salary than male professors? Ironically, even here in Manila and even if it is at the center of the best educational institution women do not experience the same treatment given to men. I do not think the quality of education female professors give to their students are inferior to male professors. I am not saying this because I am from their rival school De La Salle University but I am challenging them to rethink about their policy and I am trying to create a discourse for a change on how we treat women starting from the best educational institutions in the Philippines.
My heart sank when I read the title of your post. Something drastic has to be done.
ReplyDeleteSame here, I had a dreadful feeling when I read it on my friend's twitter.

ReplyDeleteI think this is also a form of rape if our political and government system would just transcend above their level of thinking.
